A deserved draw against a hard working Wroxham Reserves side this afternoon, writes Jordan Maynard.
Long Melford were missing a number of players for various reasons with Jacob Brown, Harry Whiting-Noakes, Alfie Carroll, George Bareham and Jamie Barclay all unavailable or injured.
The game started very well for the Villagers (who travelled a round trip of 132 miles for this fixture). On 6 minutes, a corner on the right delivered by Charlie Glover, found the head of KONNOR OUGHTON, whose header was powered home to the bottom left hand corner of the goal – a well taken goal for the Villagers.
For the majority of the first half, Melford were in full control of the game, with some nice passing moves and stubborn defending.
However, towards the end of the half the young Wroxham side started to play well and create many more chances – luckily, all of these chances were of no avail to Melford’s delight going into half time.
On roughly 63 minutes, the hosts equalised from Melford’s lack of clearing their lines – a thumping volley from ZAK CORK.
The hosts then created more chances – however, the game then became very end to end with neither teams creating any clear cut chances as the game progressed, both teams gave the ball away several times.
Melford’s frustration would grow when on 80 minutes, RYAN FORBES finished a good goal to propel the Wroxham Ressies into the lead.
Melford’s attempts to get a draw grew more effective and more quicker. This had worked when on 88 minutes, another Charlie Glover corner delivery, found BRANDON SAILSBURY – a superb overhead kick in the box, a wonderful goal!
The full time whistle blew – a deserved draw from a thin on the ground Melford side and with several players out of their normal positions.
Now onto the last home game of the season – next Saturday 18th April, where the Villagers host Whittlesey Athletic. Let’s all work together to get a bigger crowd than Easter Bank Holiday Monday! JORDAN MAYNARD
