After the heavy 4-0 defeat at Leiston Reserves on Saturday, Long Melford bounced back in style on Easter Monday.

In front of a crowd of 104, Melford were convincing winners against Wivenhoe Town.

Nice to see Mascots from Under 6/7 years lead Melford out – let’s have more of it next season.

From the start of the first half to the interval Melford had a strong grip on this game.

Playing some nice football Melford went ahead on 12 minutes when a brilliant cross from Alfie Carroll to the Wivenhoe far post  saw JAMIE BARCLAY find the net with a bullet header.

Four minutes later and Melford went further ahead when Konnor Oughton raced down the Melford left flank and his fine pull back found  JACOB BROWN  who rifled home from fifteen yards.

On 24 minutes Melford forged further ahead when a free kick found ALFIE CARROLL at the far post and his header across the box crossed the line with Brendon McKay finishing just in case.

Melford keeper Ben Moye had only the odd incident to deal with but Wivenhoe must have had Brian Clough in their dressing room at half time as they came out for the second half in a real fighting mood.

Within the opening ten minutes of the half Melford had three great chances Brandon  Salisbury fired wide, keeper Tim Jefferies  saved very well from Brandon McKay,  and in goalmouth scramble  Wivenhoe cleared off the goal line.

With Charlie Carr and  Harry Conway  working hard Wivenhoe got into act of forcing a corner or two  and for the first time in the game the Melford defence were at a stretch at times.

On 65 minutes Melford went four goals to good, a Jamie Barclay free kick found ALFIE CARROLL who found the net with a  fine header.

Needless  to say ALFIE CARROLL was named Man of the Match after the game (pictured below receiving his award from Jordan).

Just time on 88 minutes for  Wivenhoe to score from the spot after a Melford defender had handled the  ball. Upstepped one of the best players for Wivenhoe CHARLIE CARR to convert from the spot.

What a difference two days make when on Easter Saturday  bottom of the League Leiston Under 23s hammered Melford 4..0 at Leiston. Two more games for Melford Wroxham away and their final home game  on April 18th ko 3pm  against Whittlesey Athletic.
