LMFC Women stay top!
Long Melford Women FC stay top of their league after Sunday’s home win.
Match report from Jordan Maynard:
Long Melford FC Women 2-1 Needham Market Women’s Reserves.
Sunday 18th October, 2PM KO – Suffolk Girls and Women’s Football League Premiership.
MELFORD WOMEN REMAIN 1ST PLACE IN THE LEAGUE!
This was a tough encounter against a good Needham Market Women’s Reserves side, who were organised and looking promising. Our amazing Women’s team carry on their fantastic form, for what is looking to be an incredible season for our Women!
It was the second fixture in a weekend where a minute’s applause was taken to commemorate and pay respects to the death of Kaylem Scopes, the son of Woodbridge Town First Team Manager Liam Scopes. Rest in Peace, Kaylem.
For the beginning of the game, both teams had their fair share of chances, but both defences held firm and held each other out. On 32 minutes, a free kick on the right side of the box was swept home into the bottom right corner by TEIGAN MCHALE! A greatly taken goal, and would solidify Melford’s position for the first half. The Needham chances came, but Melford’s defence was strong until the half time break.
After the interval, both teams would again start strong with their even amount of creativity and efforts to get a goal. Then on about 70 minutes, Melford would get their second goal. A good team build up, forced a critical error, where an OWN GOAL was scored by the Needham captain when the ball was poked home past the Needham goalkeeper near the 6 yard box.
About 13 minutes later, Needham got their consolation goal – the Needham player somehow looped the ball over Melford goalkeeper, Jamie-Louise Newstead on the right hand side. This of course, would give Needham the confidence to try and nick an equalising goal. Needham would unleash a flurry of shots, but as usual – the Melford defence remained stubborn, organised and very well managed to hold on and end the game with a 2-1 victory.
Another great result for our Women’s Team. More support would be appreciated for Luke and our amazing Women! The next fixture is an away trip Essex, to take on Alresford Colne Rangers Women (2pm KO), Sunday 25th October.
