After the very poor performance midweek against Cornard, this was an excellent response from the young Melford team.

It was a welcome return from injury for Ryan Gibbs and Deklyn Roy, but The Villagers were still minus six regular starters through injury, holidays and weddings!

Early in the first half Melford threatened with Reuben Chinnery and Ryan Gibbs coming close.

Gradually Kirkley, who are having a great start to the season, came back into the game. And on 28 minutes Keiran Wing wasted what was a golden chance by shooting wide.

Still Kirkley threatened and really Cameron Russell should have converted on 31 minutes, but sliced his shot.

Straight from the second half kick-off Melford went on the offensive, with some great crosses into the box and from one of these Ben Judge was only inches wide with his shot.

Chances continued at both ends but the goal finish was absent.

In the 8th minute of the nine added Kirkley almost snatched the winner when a shot from Baily Phipps shaved the Melford goalpost. CHENOBERET
