As the scoreline suggests this was a very one-sided contest between the division’s bottom two teams.

Credit to the visitors from Norfolk, travelling 88 miles from Sheringham with a team heavily made up of Youth players, to fulfil a fixture, is commendable.

Like Melford the season has not been kind for Sheringham losing most of their original team, gossip has it that they will  be withdrawing from the League at the end of the season, citing too much travel as the main reason.

After a cautious start  Melford took the half time break with a one goal lead  courtesy of a fine run and finish by CADEN VINE, who is enjoying his newly appointed attacking role, and who  overall had an excellent game.

With Melford keeper Thomas Straetmans only troubled a handful of times during the whole game, it was total dominance by The Villagers.

After hitting the crossbar and posts several time in the first period Melford made it count in the second half.

On 52 minutes Caden Vine found  BEN JUDGE with a fine ball to fire home.

After coming on as sub RYAN GIBBS fired home from 20 yards to give Melford their third.

This was followed on 84 minutes by a shot from Vine which went off a defender into the Sheringham net (sorry Caden would have been nice for the hat trick).

Three minutes later and on from the subs bench  MAKHI JOHNSON-REID scored a fine individual goal.

Soon after this the newly signed 17 year old DYLAN WHITELOCK took the ball round 17 year old Sheringham keeper Maksyn Arnautov to score another goal for the Villagers.

The scoring was capped in the final minute of added time when  CADEN VINE  fired home.

In truth the scoreline could have been well into double figures. Credit has to go to Maksyn Arnautov who made a string of fine saves.

In the following weeks Melford have two more home games against Ely City and Fakenham Town.

LONG MELFORD: Thomas Straetmans, Charlie Coy, Dek.Roy, Carlos Lazar, Ben Judge, Jake Jackson, Jordan Gibbs,  Jacob Brown (capt), Will Thorp, Caden Vine, Ben Humphreys

SUBS: Ryan Gibbs, Jack Utting, Dylan Whitelock, Makhi Johnson-Reid

As the scoreline suggests this was a very one-sided contest between the division’s bottom two teams.

Hard fought draw!
