Long Melford U23s progressed to the next round of the Chell Trophy with victory over Whitton United.

But it was a nail biting exercise when it should have been fairly straightforward.

It was the visitors who took the lead after 23 minutes when a ball over the top caught out the Melford defence and JOSH SMITH ran through to convert.

Whilst Melford enjoyed most of the ball possession, they failed to capitalise on their many chances. Shooting when on the edge of the area, would do much to help towards increasing their chances of goal scoring.

They levelled up when the positive and swift LUWA LUWALBELWA netted a fine goal.

The second half continued in similar fashion to the first period and on 61 minutes CHARLIE HOLMES (pictured) fired home from fifteen yards to give Melford the lead.

But drama was to follow when just before the end of the game an over robust challenge from a Melford defender, saw the referee point to the penalty spot.

Much praise deserved to young Melford keeper Frazer Foy who dived to save and thus ensure a Melford victory.  CHENOBERET
