It is another derby win for Long Melford in a week, 2 out of 2 derby wins. With Tuesday night’s First Team 3-1 win away to Hadleigh United, it was our Long Melford Women’s Team who won with a thrashing 5-0 at home to AFC Sudbury Development Women’s.
Melford looked to be in fine rhythm, and possession was with Melford for most of the game. On 15 minutes, some good team play from Melford, BROGAN MCHALE hits the ball from a long 25 yards out with much velocity into the net. A fine goal and fine start for our Long Melford Women!
AFC Sudbury would have a few chances following on, but Melford defended extremely well. Then on 39 minutes, Melford would double their lead to 2 – Jessica Clark looped a sublimely precise long ball over the top of the Sudbury defence, it was then rifled home superbly in the top corner of the net by JADE HORNE.
Sudbury would have a few more attempts to run through and get a chance; yet again, Melford’s defence were defending amazingly.
Then after the break, Melford would resume their fine first half performance. Melford get another goal on 56 minutes. A scrappy corner, after Sudbury couldn’t clear the corner and Melford applied the pressure, the ball was found and followed in by the foot of RACHEL WHITE.
Sudbury would have a few more chances, Maddie Gardiner in the Melford goal keeping the ball out of the net and the defence holding very firm and immediately pressing and pressuring Sudbury into not getting through the defensive line.
On 73 minutes; a great battling passage of play from Melford, allowed CALLIE BRADBURY to run between the AFC Sudbury full & centre backs to slot the ball neatly in the net for Melford’s 4th goal of the afternoon.
Ten minutes later, Melford formed a great team play on the left side. Danielle Steele squared the ball into GEORGIA LINDON, who finally found the back of the net.
A fantastic game, a great team effort – well done, our Long Melford Women!
Player of the Match was Brogan McHale.
