Match report from Jordan Maynard:

The curtain has come down on the 2025/26 Season today, but with a 1-0 defeat to the hosting Villagers. Melford’s first season back as a Step 6 club after 11 years at Step 5 in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division has been a relatively good one; as Melford have finished in the top half of the table at 10th position in the First Division North.

For the first 20 minutes of the game, Melford were in charge, showing good passing display and pressing the Whittlesey defence. Afterwards, the Melford team fell a bit backwards and not showing any signs of improvement.

On 35 minutes, the visitors get the ball in the box due to a lack of clearing and pressing by the Melford defence and KIERAN HIBBINS put the ball to the right of Melford’s Ben Moye.

Then for the rest of the game, both teams creating chances, in a pretty average match. Alfie Carroll received a second yellow in this fixture because of a late timed challenge in the Whittlesey attack. The only difference being that Whittlesey Athletic (who travelled a total of 134 miles) took the 3 points back to the Cambridgeshire Fenlands.

Not the result the Melford players and management wanted to finish the season on, but a season that has seen a much improved squad and much more better results.

Now we move onto next season, where Melford manager, Martin ‘Macca’ McConnell has already started his planning – a different story next season we hope, UP THE MELFORD! ⚫️⚪️

MELFORD SQUAD – STARTING: Ben Moye (GK), Alfie Carroll, Jamie Barclay, Jack Utting, Rio Simpson, Taylor Bunnage, Kyron Cooper, Charlie Glover, Brandon Sailsbury, Jacob Brown (Captain), Brandon McKay

SUBSTITUTIONS (ALL USED): Luca Enderby, Jah Straw, Toby John, Harry Whiting-Noakes, George Bareham

Ben Moye was awarded man of the match in our final game of the season.
