Narrow home defeat

With a pitch inspection not needed due to the pitch draining very well, despite the constant rainy conditions we had in previous days.

Martin McConnell’s lads faced off against Dussindale & Hellesdon Rovers – a side that was on a losing streak as of recently, until yesterday afternoon… as the visitors from Horsford took the only goal and spoils in the game. Contentious officiating also left Melford frustrated.

The first half was a stalemate, with both teams creating their fair share of chances in front of goal.

It all was going to get pear shaped for Melford as they had their two strikers injured. Konnor Oughton went down injured (knee injury I believe) on 18 minutes and was replaced by former Walsham Le Willows winger, Charlie Glover. On 42 minutes – one of our best signings of the summer, Olly Hughes was brought down by a Dussindale player who accidentally collided into Olly’s eye.

Luckily Olly had only a foreign object inside his eye and not having a cut eye – Olly was replaced by Club Captain, Jacob Brown who returned to the side after holiday in Longleat.

The second half is when the goal came for the visitors, when Dussindale got the ball out wide and the winger drove into the box and passed into the striker who turned his back and turned back facing towards goal, the Melford centre halfs were unable to close down the shooting angle as the striker for Dussindale slotted home on the right side of the net beside the charging Ben Moye.

From then on, Melford were unleashing everything they had in their locker to attack – due to judgement and some rather poor passing in the visitors half, Dussindale were able go on the counter quickly multiple times. Yet again the opponents always won very soft fouls.

One of the only really good chances by Melford was when Charlie Glover charged towards the right flank in the 67th minute, and delivered a low cross into Brandon McKay, whose shot was held onto tightly by the Dussindale goalkeeper.

Macca’s men now move onto next Saturday, where they have a long drive to Lincolnshire – as they take on Holbeach United.
