A deserved victory for Long Melford at Heacham on Saturday despite a number of obstacles.
The Melford team journeyed the 70 plus miles with a lack of players with only one fit substitute, and against all the odds pulled off a deserved victory.
In addition to the players, Rob Fayers and Darren Thomas the joint Managers are to be congratulated on their dedication and determination.
In a competitive first half Ben Judge saw his goal bound shot cleared off the Heacham goal line, and at the other end Melford keeper Jaden Smith was at his best to save a great header from Colby Wood, with a flying save.
The second half belonged to Melford playing some good passing football.
On 59 minutes Ben Judge got past his two markers, fiizzed a pass to Ben Humphreys, and his shot was parried by the home keeper but teenager WILL THORP ran in to net with great aplomb.
The second goal came shortly after, when Melford won a midfield tackling tussle, and the ball found BEN HUMPHREYS (pictured) who then lobbed the home keeper from some 35 yards.
Melford never seem to have a game without some controversy. On 79 minutes the referee adjudged Melford skipper Jacob Brown had fouled a Heacham player in the Melford box and awarded a penalty to the home side.
Hit hard to the left side of the goal, keeper Jayden Smith made a magnificent save to keep a clean sheet for Melford.
LONG MELFORD: Jayden Smith, Ollie Judge, Jibril Akinade, Deklyn Roy, Caden Vine, Jake Jackson, Jacob Brown (capt), Ben Judge, Reuben Chinnery, Will Thorp, Ben Humpheys
Sub used: Aaron Lee Cooper not used: Jordan Gibbs
