A minute’s silence was held in memory of club chairman Geoff Thomas before Saturday’s Chell Trophy match against Stowmarket Town.
Both teams are to be congratulated on producing a great game, which was a good advert for Under 23s football.
The home team started the game with some high attacking football, but somehow in the opening 18 minutes, four great chances failed to find the Stowmarket net.
As the half wore on Stowmarket started to create chances but found Jasper Mullan in the Melford goal in excellent form.
Whilst the first half belonged to Melford the visitors started with some fine football in the second half with Melford struggling to cope with some direct attacking.
No surprise when Stow went ahead on 63 minutes with a fine strike by TOM SIMMONS from 25 yards. which gave Mullan no chance in the Melford goal.
Further chances came for both sides, and in the 88th minute JOSH TWARDOWSKI fired home from the angle for Melford to take the game to a penalty shoot out, which Melford won to go though to the next round.
