Walsham-le-Willows ran out comfortable winners on Boxing Day.
For Long Melford’s new managers Rob Fayers and Darren Thomas, it was almost a dream start. From the kick off Melford should have gone ahead when they got into the Walsham penalty box but the finish saw the ball go over the crossbar rather than into the net.
Bizarrely Melford had a similar chance from a corner after seven minutes but again failed to convert.
From that point Walsham took over the game, showing better movement, better passing and a greater speed which saw Melford very much on the defensive for most of the game.
On 38 minutes Cameron Nicholls got down the Melford left flank, and without challenge, he crossed the ball for KEIRAN TWINN to convert from two yards.
The Walsham control of the game continued in the second half . But on 51 minutes Melford striker Ryan Gibbs got through on the Walsham goal but visiting keeper Ryan Dunne spread himself to block his goal bound effort.
On 62 minutes Melford were caught again down the flank and from the cross KEIRAN TWINN converted for his second goal.
On 72 minutes REECE LANCHESTER added the third goal with a header.
The fourth goal came after 77 minutes when Harvey Hubbard played in JESSE WYATT to convert from close range.
Melford clawed a goal back shortly after when JAKE JACKSON swivelled and his shot found the net from twenty yards (that is how you do it!).
In the closing minutes Walsham made it five when Reon Huckvale crossed for KEIRAN TWINN to complete an excellent hat trick.
The Great Escape? Well Melford will need it. CHENOBERET
