The Villagers continued their winning streak with a well earned victory against mid-table Lakenheath thanks to Hassan Ally’s winner.

With an eye on the League cup game final next Thursday at Harlow Town, manager Dave Hennesey took the opportunity to rest a number of players.

Captain Jacob Brown missed out with this one game suspension, ace striker Ryan Gibbs took a day off, others included Josh Collins, Ben Judge, Oli Judge and Jordan Gibbs.

Throughout the game Melford battled well and overall with a depleted team deserved their slender victory.

The opening minutes of the game were punctuated by two head injuries to Lakenheath players.

Melford scored the only goal of the match after 18 minutes, Fred Dende found space down the right flank and his cross was flicked into the net by HASSAN ALLY.

The visitors twice flanked back across the Melford penalty area, with no-one on hand to convert.

On 43 minutes Melford thought they had a second goal, a Callum Dongray header from a corner was hooked off the goal line with Melford confident the ball had crossed the line, but the referee failed to agree and the assistant was unsighted.

After Melford continued to improve, Lakenheath upped the game for much of the second half, with Jamie Smith, ex Walsham player going close, and Ethan Flack going close to finding a goal.

On 67 minutes Jamie Smith was as the result of a second yellow card, sent off by the referee.

On 71 minutes Ben Humphry got through for Long Melford, a one to one with Dan Stobbart but the keeper stopped his shot.

Although Lakenheath pressed hard their best chance fell to George Edwards who played the ball over the bar.

Just before the end Charlie Glover found the net for Melford but the offside flag was raised, whilst another effort was pushed round the post by keeper Stobbart. CHENOBERET
