Harry Whiting-Noakes scored for Long Melford but it was Fakenham Town known as The Ghosts who took three points back to Norfolk.

The words of a well known song spring to mind when starting this report “when will they ever learn”?

Melford surely have to accept with their current League position and a current difficult pitch surface at the Skyline Stadium it is not a wise policy to attempt “passing out from the back”.

The perils were proven when in effect Fakenham were gifted both of their goals in a game that overall Melford should have rescued a point at least.

It looked certain that Melford would go into the interval break with no goals until in the added time period some hazardous cross field passing by Melford saw the ball played to the collection area of JAY MYHILL who smashed the ball into the net, for a Fakenham lead after an otherwise evenly contested first period.

Melford created plenty of chances early in the second half but the absence of bodies in the Fakenham box saw the chances not converted.

On 58 minutes Melford levelled when HARRY WHITING-NOAKES converted from close range.

For much of the period Melford created the better chances.

Then another Melford kamikaze act on 67 minutes cost them the game. Keeper Matthew Walker passed out to Callum Dongray, and between them they allowed JAKE WATTS to collect the ball and fire home.

Things have to change if results are to change. CHENOBERET
