Long Melford’s improved recent form continued with an excellent point and clean sheet against title-chasing Mildenhall Town.

Although the League leaders as you might expect had much more of the ball, particularly in the first half, Melford made a real fight of it, and is often the case had chances to snatch the unexpected victory.

Within the opening 15 minutes Mildenhall had some good opportunities, with Tanner Call failing when he might have been expected to score.

At the other end Will Wingfield flashed a shot wide and Ben Judge found the Mildenhall area but failed to find a conversion.

Just before half time Alfie Connor got though on goal, but Melford keeper Matt Walker (pictured) in his 100th match for the club came off his line to smother the effort.

This was followed by a fine clearance off the Melford goal line by Josh Collins who had an outstanding game in the Melford defence.

The second half saw Melford increase their tempo, and Jacob Brown came close with a fine shot.

The Melford defence stood firm with the visitors starting to vent their frustrations with the match officials.

Overall a scrappy game between two teams at opposite ends of the table. A below par Mildenhall on the day, but a very creditable performance by The Villagers.
