Long Melford moved up to 7th in the Thurlow Nunn Premier with a midweek victory at Brantham Athletic.
It was a third consecutive win for David Hennessey’s in-form team who have picked up 13 points from their last 6 matches.
There were two changes to the Melford team that started at Whitton on Saturday – Deklyn Roy replaced the unavailable Josh Collins (work commitments) and Jake Jackson came back in for Lewis Brennan who started on the bench. Ben Humphreys returned to the squad having served his three match suspension.
There were two familiar names in the Brantham line-up. Goalkeeper Matt Walker (Supporters’ Player of the Year at Melford last season) and Jose Santa who had a successful loan spell at Stoneylands in 2020, both started for the Blue Imps.
Melford took the lead in the first half through an excellent strike from 25 yards by HARRY WHITING-NOAKES (his first goal for the club).
FREDERICO DENDE doubled the lead in the 80th minute from close range following a corner.
There was still time for Brantham to pull a goal back when LIAM RILEY fired into the top corner from 20 yards giving Melford keeper David Leader no chance.
However, the visitors held on to chalk up their sixth win of the campaign.
I’m delighted with the run we’ve put together, the boys have worked hard, played well and deserved to pick up the 3 points under the lights at Brantham.
Up next is a home match against Mulbarton Wanderers on Saturday (3pm ko).
