Jacob Brown stays for new season

First TeamNews

The club are delighted to announce we have retained the services of influential midfielder, Jacob Brown for the 2022/23 season.

Jacob signed for Long Melford in 2018 and has scored 19 goals in 107 games for the club. He was a key member of our League Cup winning team in 2019.

Unsurprisingly, a player of Jacob’s calibre attracted lots of interest from elsewhere this summer. His decision to stay will be a massive boost to everyone connected to the club.

As one of our most experienced players, Jacob has also taken on the role of Club Captain for the coming season.

We asked Jacob to say a few words on the website:

I’m delighted to be staying at the club. Despite receiving numerous offers, once Dave and I sat down and talked about the plans for the club and how things are going to be run, it made it an easy decision for me to stay.

I love that I’ll take on the responsibility of being the new club captain for the coming season and I can’t wait to get into it!

Manager Dave Hennessey had this to say:

I’m absolutely delighted that we’ve been able to keep Browny on board for the coming season. He’s an experienced player at this level (and above) and he really stepped up for us in key games last year.

With lots of change at the club it was important for us to retain Browny and making it official with him as club captain felt like an absolute no-brainer.

We have plenty more news coming this week, in terms of players staying at the club.

And later this week we will unveil our new kits for the 22/23 season and announcements of new signings are in the works too!
