Dave Hennessey’s team started the match in 2nd position and were looking to build on the excellent midweek win at Thetford. But on the day Melford lacked their usual cutting edge in the final third.

The wind was the dominant factor throughout the game and made for a scrappy contest of few chances.

The only goal of the match came around the half hour mark when a Holland free-kick was cleared to the edge of the box, a clean strike from LUKE BARNARD whistled into the net to give the visitors the lead from their first real chance.

In the second half Melford huffed and puffed but found the Holland defence a tough nut to crack.

At the other end of the pitch Melford keeper Alex Utteridge got down well to make a low save to keep his team in the game.

Melford had a flurry of free-kicks into the box late on, but overall lacked their usual spark and didn’t test the Holland keeper enough.

Melford will look to bounce back on Wednesday night at home to Framlingham Town Reserves (7.45pm kick off at Stoneylands).
