Football to return, but League campaign curtailed

LMFC/25 Feb, 21/402/0
News

After nearly four months with not games at Long Melford, the government announcement lifting the lockdown restrictions meant football will soon be on the agenda again.

However, while clubs and players are delighted to see there is light at the end of the tunnel, with still so much football to play to be able to complete the season a decision from the football authorities was needed.

Our first team had only played eight of their 38 league games prior to lockdown, and without a game since 28 October, it would require a super-human effort to complete their fixtures, or an extension to the season, beyond 15 May.

And a decision came from the Football Assocation on Wednesday night, confirming that the competitive leagues from steps 3-6 of the national pyramid, would be brought to a close.

Our alliance and leagues committees have reached a consensus that, subject to the approval of FA Council, the 2020-21 league season for Steps 3-6 of the NLS should be curtailed with immediate effect, with no further league matches taking place this season.

We now wait to see how and if any games will take place this season, with so many clubs and players desperate to get back to action.

Ultimately, that’s it for another season. 38 league games played by since the 2019 Cup Final victory, with a record of P38, W14, D6, L18, F63, A80, Pts 48. Any ‘normal’ season, that’s good enough for a mid-table finish.

One day, perhaps, we can see a return to normal once again…
