Ray Woodgate Remembered
We are sorry to report the death of a Long Melford Football Club stalwart, Ray Woodgate, at the age of 83.
The whole Woodgate family had a long history of connection with LMFC. Alf Woodgate father of Ray (the man in top hat in LMFC Senior Cup photos from 1950s) as a bricklayer was involved with building of the dressing rooms at LMFC, and was also a committee member for many years. His wife May was also involved with the tea hut in the 1950s.
A player for many years at LMFC, Ray also played in the Club Darts team and was also a Committee member.
His son Nigel was also a first team player for many years. Ray leaves a widow Phyllis, who for many years was a keen helper at LMFC and manned the tea hut for a long period of time, and his son Nigel.
All at Long Melford Football Club offer our sincere condolences to the Woodgate family.
R.I.P Ray.
