Report

Late goals from Will Wingfield and Ryan Gibbs earned Long Melford a good point against in-form Lakenheath.

After playing second fiddle for most of the first half, Melford came back with a spirited response in the second half to deservedly collect a share of the points.

In the opening period Melford keeper Matt Walker made some fine saves, while Casey Phillips saw his header cleared off the line in another Lakenheath attack.

On 22 minutes Lakenheath were awarded a penalty when Thomas Thurlborn took a tumble in the area and a penalty was awarded. Up stepped LUKE YOUNG to finish crisply from the spot.

At the other end keeper Charlie Beckwith saved well at the feet of Melford striker Ryan Gibbs when an equaliser looked on the cards.

Some fluent Lakenheath attacking play saw them increase their lead on 43 minutes when LUKE YOUNG converted from a wide left flank position.

The second half saw home keeper Walker make two more fine saves to keep Melford in the game.

The Villagers continued to battle hard and on 77 minutes they got a goal back, a Melford throw created havoc in the Lakenheath box and from the melee that ensued WILL WINGFIELD fired home.

On 87 minutes a cracking drive from Gibbs saw a full length dive from keeper Beckwith to push the ball round the post.

Melford were not to be denied and on 90 minutes the leveller came. Some excellent left wing play from the returning from injury Ben Judge, saw his cross eventually headed home by RYAN GIBBS, to be greeted by an explosion of noisy jubilation from the home supporters.
