Report

The Melford youngsters are full of talent, and usually provide good entertainment, but last night at times it was frustrating to watch.

Over elaboration when simplicity was required, holding the ball when a simple pass was required and at times a lack of purpose and intent.

What on paper should have been a simple victory turned into a battle against the “strongest squad” the visitors could assemble.

Both keepers Josh Fowler for Melford and Frankie Ellis-Hall for Holland were heroes at various points of the match.

Melford had glorious chances squandered by Kyran Quelch and Thom Chance in the first half whilst Holland could have gone ahead with steadier finishing by Harry Sibley and  Marcus Daniels, Daniels being the pick of the Holland team on the night.

Frustration continued for Melford  into the second half , until at last on 67 minutes THOM CHANCE thumped the ball into the net from six yards.

Then in last 15 minutes Melford were transformed with the introduction from a lay off through injury of  Luwa Luwabelwa and Nkosi Mwanza, who with their speed and ball control ran the Holland defence ragged, and only good keeping by F Ellis-Hall prevented them from increasing the Melford lead.

After an earlier altercation with a raised arm against a Melford player Charlie Ellis-Hall, when a yellow card was given by the official, justice was finally given at the end of the game when the said player via a second yellow card was given a red card by the referee.  CHENOBERET
