Report

Long Melford performed well against in-form Woodbridge Town but were left empty-handed after conceding two soft goals late on.

Through holidays and injuries, Melford made five changes from the team that played against Harleston Town last week.

The Villagers almost went ahead after 11 minutes when Jack Brame got through on goal, Woodbridge keeper  Jack Spurling was quick off his line, and saved point blank from the Melford striker.

At the other end in a promising Woodbridge attack Elliott Capel put his header wide.

It was a high intensity game with little between the two teams, Woodbridge were awarded two free kicks in good positions, but the efforts from Capel and Remi Garrett were blocked by a resolute Melford defence well marshalled by Josh Collins and the imposing Deklyn Roy.

On 51 minutes Melford had an escape when an undefended cross went over the Melford penalty area without a Woodbridge player finding the finishing touch.

On 55 minutes Melford went ahead when Hassan Ally was pulled back on his way into the Woodbridge penalty box, and from the free kick JACK BRAME fired in a low hard kick which took a deflection into the net.

Then in a bizarre 10 minute spell from 72 minutes when Elliott Capel was sin-binned for the visitors, Melford were in the space of two minutes facing defeat.

The Melford defence failed to clear from their own penalty area and on 76 minutes MARK RAY prodded home from close range.

On 78 minutes worse was to come for Melford, a through ball saw Melford keeper  David Leader rooted to his goal line and MARK RAY fired into the net.

Melford looked stunned by the two quick goals and Woodbridge finished the game strongly, with a third goal ruled out

A frustrating afternoon for Melford who played well for 75 minutes but ultimately presented the points on the plate for Woodbridge. CHENOBERET
