Ben Humphreys’ second half goal earned Long Melford a deserved point.
With a fresh wind at their backs and kicking towards the River End, the brave hearts of Melford produced a well deserved draw against the flourishing Great Yarmouth Town.
In the opening minutes Melford attacked with venom and sadly no success. Whilst “The Bloaters” were starting to get into the flow of things with their wide players Jesse Fenn and Louie Duffield starting to impress.
On 8 minutes Yarmouth took the lead with JESSE FENN beating two Melford defenders down the Yarmouth left flank to fire into Melford net from the angle.
This proved to be a stimulus to the Yarmouth play and they started to provide problems for the Melford defence.
Over the space of the first period the Melford defence made three goal line clearances from Yarmouth efforts, hard luck for the visitors, but from a Melford perspective good defending.
On 53 minutes with Melford looking the better side, the equaliser came for Melford.
A long throw from Greg Birch (on for the injured Mahki Johnson-Reid,) caused mayhem in the Yarmouth box and eventually BEN HUMPHREYS found the Yarmouth net from close range.
This added confidence to the Melford play and for a period they took control of the game, but were unable to find the clincher.
Melford defended well in last ten minutes when Yarmouth flung players forward, with Melford keeper Jayden Smith making some fine saves, and Dek Roy and Carlos Lazar very firm at the centre of the Melford defence. A deserved point for The Villagers.
