Long Melford’s challenging season continued with defeat on the road at Newmarket Town on Saturday.
The Villagers were minus Deklyn Roy, Harry Brown and Ryan Gibbs, for this game but welcomed two new signings Brosnan Jarrett and Luke Beamish for their debuts.
The whole game can be summarised in a few sentences, the much strengthened Jockeys from last season, were far better than Melford who were second best for most of the game.
Although full of footballing talent Newmarket play a fairly simple game, win the midfield area, and go forward at speed with a long ball to the flanks, and that tactic worked to perfection.
Although Melford competed over the first period, their game was littered with poor passes and a shyness to shoot at goal when the opportunity arose.
A poor Melford pass after 34 minutes allowed in ALISTAIR CONWAY to rifle home from the Newmarket left flank.
On 42 minutes a wild Melford challenge lead to a penalty kick for Newmarket, but Melford keeper Matt Walker made a fine diving save.
The second half was a total disaster for Melford with no attacking threat apparent.
On 49 minutes JAMES SEYMOUR fired home.
Keeper Walker after earlier pushing over the bar a piledriver from Ben Robinson, on 87 minutes will have been disappointed to be beaten by a ground shot from 35 yards from RYAN COLE, and worse was to follow after parrying a shot from teenage starlet, Jacob Mingay on 90 minutes only to see CLINTON FRANK bang home the loose ball.
At least from a personal perspective, Newmarket do an excellent cream cake at half time, which rescues one from a total air of depression! CHENOBERET
