Long Melford’s hopes of a top-half finish were dealt a blow with their heaviest defeat of the season.
This was always going to be a tough match at high-flying Thetford Town who are challenging for the title.
However it’s the manner of the defeat that will disappoint Melford with the game over as a contest by half-time.
Simple summary Thetford good, Melford poor, not much to add really!
On 27 minutes Thetford took the lead when a Melford clearance went the wrong way to that intended and landed for MATT MORTON to prod home at the far post.
On 38 minutes an excellent through ball saw JAKE MANN run through to place the ball wide of Max Boulter in the Melford goal.
Almost on the half time whistle the tally went to three with Melford appealing for offside GEORGE DIGGENS ran through to net from the Melford penalty box.
No let up in the second period with a soft penalty award, and the victim DAN GILCHRIST got up in rapid fashion to net from the spot.
Still time left for DAN GILCHRIST to make it five on 76 minutes.
