Long Melford were knocked out of the League Cup on penalties after a spirited fight back on Wednesday evening.
Melford manager David Hennessey made five changes to the team that started Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Haverhill Rovers.
After a goalless first half, Woodbridge took control of the tie by going 2-0 up through Mark Ray and Luke Mallett.
However, Melford fought back late on with goals from Jacob Brown and recent signing Carlos Lazar on his first team debut.
And so the tie was decided by penalties with Woodbridge coming out on top, 5-4 and we wish them the best of luck for the next round.
LONG MELFORD: David Leader, Jordan Gibbs, Ben Judge, Jake Jackson, Deklyn Roy, Josh Collins, Hassan Ally, Harry Whiting-Noakes, Ryan Gibbs, Jacob Brown, Perry Newman
Subs (all used); Lewis Brennan, Frederico Dende, Ben Humphreys, Carlos Lazar, Sam Newton
Up next the 1st Team visit Kirkley & Pakefield tomorrow (3pm) while the Reserves are at home to Woodbridge Town Reserves in a 2pm kick off (thank you to Woodbridge for accommodating the early start).
