Excellent goalkeeping by Matt Walker kept Melford in the game until late on but Fakenham were good value for their win.
From the heights of the great victory at Gorleston last week, Melford were second best to an impressive Fakenham team that had greater fluency and fully deserved their victory.
The Ghosts’ twin pronged attack of Ashley Jarvis and Jake Watts, were always a threat and Melford have keeper Matt Walker for a string of first halve saves to keep the score line level at half time.
Melford also had their chances with several dangerous crosses into the Fakenham box, which gave the odd goalmouth scramble, but the finish was lacking to trouble Ghosts keeper Tom Coombe.
The home team improved slightly in the second half and Ollie Emsden fired in a shot that hit the bar and went out of play.
Melford introduced their subs, and from one of these a goal almost resulted, speedy wide man Kyle Hurley got into the Fakenham box, and went down under a high Fakenham challenge, but the referee dismissed the penalty calls, and awarded a corner instead.
In the last twenty minutes of the game Fakenham surged forward looking for goals.
After another fine Walker save and an effort cleared off the line, the opening goal came on 78 minutes and a peach of a stike it was. Allowed time and space midfielder LOUIS MASON-HENMAN thirty yards out fired in a calibre shot into the top corner of the Melford net.
Three minutes later and the increased lead came via a Melford gift, when it was easier to clear with one effort up field, Melford did not, and Mason Henman collected the ball and found ASHLEY JARVIS to score Fakenham’s second.
The Villagers are back in action at Lakenheath on Tuesday (7.45pm) followed by a home match against Kirkley on Saturday (3pm).
